I started doing bonsai when I was in high school, about five years ago. At first I did not really plan to make it a hobby. I just saw those small trees on the internet and thought they looked cool. Out of curiosity, I tried to grow one, and then I realized it was harder than it looked. Bonsai needs time, patience, and care. Sometimes it even feels like a quiet friendship between me and the tree. My favorite kind is the Ficus because it is strong and can live in many conditions, but shaping its basic form is not simple at all. I like working on the main branches and watching the leaves grow naturally. That part always makes me feel calm. When I feel tired or my head is full of things, I often sit near my bonsai and just look at it for a while. It helps me to slow down and breathe. I think that is the reason I keep doing this hobby until now. Bonsai teaches me how to wait, to stay patient, and to enjoy small progress. You do not have to be rich or a plant expert to try it. You only need time and a bit of love for nature. Seeing a small tree that you take care of slowly become more beautiful is really special. For me, growing bonsai is not only about shaping a tree, but also about shaping myself little by little.
